The Anchorman

Artigo de hoje no jornal Metro (papel e online).

Arsenal are closing in on Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho as Arsene Wenger seeks to strengthen a squad which continues to be battered by injuries.

Portuguese daily newspaper Record has revealed that the Gunners have taken a look at the 21-year-old who operates as an anchorman in their engine room.

Born in Angola, the ball winner won his first cap for Portugal as a substitute in the 3-2 World Cup play-off victory against Sweden in November and could be part of their squad heading to the finals in Brazil.

Wenger has apparently asked for a detailed dossier on his abilities as word has reached the Emirates that Carvalho has been a mainstay in the Lisbon midfield this season after gaining experience last term when he was on loan at Belgium club Cercle Brugge.

A snag in any potential negotiations may be the complicated fee as the player is under contract for the next four years, with 40 per cent of his sporting rights are owned by a third party.
